The Tablet PC is very much like a traditional laptop, but with a few major points of difference. Unlike a laptop, these computers boast newer technologies such as touch screens and swiveling screens.
These computers can give you a better mobile computing alternative, letting you stay connected wherever and whenever you need to be. Wherever the traditional laptop is not always practical, the Tablet PC is ready and able to step in to fill the gap.

What Makes The Tablet PC So Different From Traditional Laptops?
A traditional laptop features a compact screen, keyboard and some form of mouse - in essence, it resembles an all in one PC. At one time, this was the latest and greatest development in computing technologies.
For the traveling businessperson, this was a boon, allowing him or her to stay in touch with the office, or even take their office on the road with them. Anything that can be done with a desktop PC can be done with a laptop computer.
The tablet PC however, offers even more in the way of mobile computing features and gives even greater access to anything you need on the road. There is even a choice of forms when opting for a tablet PC: Slate or Convertible.
A Convertible has a keyboard and swiveling screen, meaning it can either look like (and be used like) a traditional laptop, or the screen can be folded over the keyboard to create a more compact mobile computing solution. A Slate, on the other hand looks like nothing so much as it does a flat screen monitor, featuring no keyboard.
Mobility is a big factor here. Whether standing, sitting or even walking, you can continue working on a tablet PC regardless.
Another wonderful mobility feature of these PCS is built in voice recording. Just talk to your computer - go ahead, everyone knows you're just recording a voice memo! New touch screen technologies mean you can "write" on your screen with a specialized stylus in lieu of the keyboards found on other computers.
Whether you need to fill out forms or just doodle in your idle moments, just pull out your stylus and get to the task at hand!
How Does The Touch Screen Work?
A tablet PC has a touch sensitive screen which can be operated via the tablet pen, or with one's fingertips.

Completely obviating the need for keyboard or mouse, a touch screen can handle any kind of input needed for your computing. And with convertible models, you can of course merely fold the keyboard back out and work with your tablet PC at a desk.
One of the most interesting features of tablets is the ability to "draw" right on the screen, which is great for graphic artists and the easily bored alike.
Even without the specialized stylus, one can work with a tablet PC. Just use your fingertips instead, noting could be simpler!
How Does The Swivel Screen Work?
A standard feature on convertible tablet PC models, this feature allows you the flexibility to work at a desk, or even when you have significantly less space.

Until the screen is swiveled, the convertible tablet PC looks and works like any other laptop. That is until you swivel the screen, at which point you have an electronic legal pad of sorts.
In this configuration, you are just dealing with a touch screen monitor. The screen folds down to cover the keyboard, as if it was never there.
When activated, the tablet PC will automatically make the configuration changes needed to operate in tablet mode.
Comparing Price
A tablet PC is more expensive than a traditional laptop, which thanks to the ever dropping cost of computers, can be quite reasonable.
Keep in mind when shopping for a tablet PC that you will be paying at least 0 more than for a comparable laptop model, depending on the brand and features.
A Tablet PC will start at a price of around ,600 and run as much as ,500 depending on make and model. If you require, or just desire a computer which offers the most in convenience and mobility, a tablet PC may well be for you.
Would you like to banish your keyboard and mouse, and just take notes on your screen with a pen, or even your fingers? Would a computer which can take notes by voice control be helpful to you?
If the answer to these questions was yes, then you need to at the very least look into the purchase of a tablet PC for your business or home use.
